Graduate student enrollment reached 1,314, which is 206 more than the 1,108 grad students who enrolled last spring. This marks the 13th consecutive long semester in which the College of Graduate Studies has recorded a new enrollment high.

Another major factor in the record spring enrollment is the 1,934 students enrolled through ASU’s new dual credit program, up from just 107 in the old program last spring. Students at 26 high schools in 22 school districts throughout West Texas are earning both high school and ASU credit for courses taught on their high school campuses.

Increases were also seen in freshman, sophomore and junior enrollment while senior enrollment remained fairly steady, resulting in a total undergraduate enrollment of 4,804 students this spring, up from the 4,748 enrolled in the spring of 2015.

ASU’s overall spring 2016 enrollment of 8,052 students is up from 5,963 last spring.

ASU President Brian J. May said, “To see both our traditional recruiting methods and new growth strategies continuing to increase our enrollment almost across the board bodes well for the future of Angelo State, as does our growing success in undergraduate retention. It’s also exciting to see our College of Graduate Studies enrollment continue to grow, and for many of our online graduate programs to continue to receive national recognition. Plus, the pending construction of new facilities for our civil engineering program and Archer College of Health and Human Services will allow us to expand those programs and increase both on-campus and online enrollment opportunities in several of our top academic degree plans.”

Texas Tech University System Chancellor Robert Duncan said, “I want to express my congratulations to Dr. Brian May and his team at Angelo State University. We continue to see their hard work pay off in across-the-board increases in virtually every enrollment metric. Everyone throughout the Texas Tech University System believes Angelo State is an educational jewel, and it’s great to see so many young people all over Texas take advantage of everything ASU has to offer.”
