The events will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the C.J. Davidson Conference Center inside the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive. Each will open with a dessert reception and will feature students signing their “Carr Scholarship Letter of Intent,” similar to signing events for athletic scholarships. The events are open to parents, families and friends of the scholarship recipients.

Carr Scholarships are renewable for four years and range in value from $1,500 to $15,000 per year. Scholarship awards are based on high school grade point average and standardized test scores on the ACT or SAT college entrance exams. The scholarships are funded by a $130 million endowment, one of the largest in the nation at a regional university. Robert G. Carr and his wife, Nona K. Carr, who bequeathed their interests in oil, gas and other minerals from producing properties in West Texas, made the Carr Foundation possible.

Carr Signing Days are being held in conjunction with the university’s I Chose Angelo State celebration to encourage local and area high school students to take a closer look at what ASU has to offer. The campaign will officially kick off when the San Angelo City Council approves the proclamation naming April “I Chose Angelo State Month” at its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 5. Students at the Carr Signing Day events will receive “I Chose Angelo State” T-shirts.

The Carr Distinguished Scholarship is ASU’s most prestigious scholarship for academic achievement and is renewable up to $60,000. Fewer than 10 Carr Distinguished Scholarships are awarded to new incoming students per year, providing each recipient with $15,000 annually. This year’s recipients, to be announced later, will be recognized with Carr Signing Day events at their respective high schools.
