ASU team members Will Curlee of Round Rock and Ty Johnson of Bernet, Ill., placed second out of 132 two-person teams from more than 30 other universities and won $1,000. They registered five bass weighing a total of 20 pounds, 10 ounces. Also for ASU, Nathan Ahle of Plano and Nolan Osmanski of San Angelo finished in fourth place and won $500. Their five-bass weight total was 18 pounds, 3 ounces.

By finishing in the top 10, both ASU teams qualified for the 2018 FLW College Fishing National Championship Tournament next summer at a date and place to be determined.

Paul Osmanski, ASU nursing faculty and Bass Anglers Club faculty sponsor, said, “I am very excited for our students and proud of how well they fished on the unfamiliar water of Lake Sam Rayburn in East Texas. Many of the other universities fish at Sam Rayburn regularly and they are familiar with that lake, which is why our results are even more impressive.”

The ASU Bass Anglers Club is a registered student organization. All prize money won at tournaments goes back to the club and the university rather than to the individual winners. More details on the club are available at http://asubassanglers.weebly.com/.

FLW is the world’s largest tournament-fishing organization, providing anglers of all skill levels the opportunity to compete for millions of dollars in prize money in 2017 across five tournament circuits. Headquartered in Benton, Ken., with offices in Minneapolis, FLW conducts more than 274 bass-fishing tournaments annually across the U.S. and sanctions tournaments in Canada, China, Mexico, South Africa and South Korea.
