It’s fitting that Alabama‘s ‘American Pride’ turns 20 today, as the 2012 Summer Olympics are winding down and Americans are beaming with pride as homespun competitors rack up the gold medals and continue to attract global attention for their athletic efforts, namely in gymnastics and swimming. So touché for the fact that the country band’s 11th platter is celebrating its anniversary.

The album, released by RCA Nashville, may not have been a critical darling, but it sure churned out hits. It produced the No. 1 single ‘I’m in a Hurry (And Don’t Know Why),’ while other singles ‘Take a Little Trip,’ ‘Hometown Honeymoon’ and ‘Once Upon a Lifetime’ all achieved Top 5 status on the radio charts.

Another fun fact? The song ‘Between the Two of Them’ was re-released as a single by Tanya Tucker in 1994 on her ‘Fire to Fire’ album.
