Country superact Alabama scored a total of 32 No. 1 singles throughout their iconic career, but no song better defined the group’s signature blend of southern rock and country than ‘Mountain Music,’ the band’s 1982 chart-topping lead single from the album of the same name.

Written by lead singer Randy Owen, our choice as the No. 27 entry on the Top 100 Country Songs countdown was not quick song to pen. According to Owens’ book, ‘Born Country,’ ‘Mountain Music’ took three years to write. The track became their sixth No. 1 song, which claimed the top spot the same week the Academy of Country Music gave the band Entertainer of the Year honors for the second consecutive year.
