On December 9, 2012, Meals For The Elderly will  hold the 24th Annual Christmas Open House, “A Christmas Masterpiece,” at renowned artist René Alvarado’s converted church residence and studio, located at 1302 Kenwood Drive.
The home will be on display to guests of the event on Sunday, December the 9th from 11am till 3pm, and the event will also showcase the culinary artistry of talented area chefs. This event will be a feast for the eyes as well as the appetite!   Reservations are $25 each, or guests are welcome to donate $30 at the door.  Parking near the home is limited, so guests should park at the Riverside Terrace at 800 W. Ave D, where complementary shuttle service will bring guests to and from their vehicle during this come-and- go event.  Guests will be invited to view this beautiful home, as well as experience the culinary treats provided by: Chef Willie Davidson of Meadow Creek Nursing Home, Chef Susan Ball of City Café and Bakery, Chef Chad Lowry of Bentwood Country Club, Chef Mike Hennessey of Sideoats Café, Chef Holly Jett of Chadbourne Street Deli, Chef Guy and Martine Calluaud  of San Angelo Country Club, Chef Billy Hillis of Chartwells at Angelo State University and many more.  René Alvarado is well known in the art world and was the 2009 Texas State Artist of the year.  Alvarado is known for his ability to merge elements of his past and present seamlessly, while frequently challenging himself and reinventing his craft to suit his vision of the world as it shifts and changes. His studio and gallery, therefore, are always evolving and changing to reflect his most recent creative revelation, so even those who have visited the space will have plenty to see.   The entire space has a perfect blend of modern twists and traditional elements. The charm of this converted 1920s church building comes from the high, arched ceilings, beautiful doors and original hardwood.
