For the past 22 years, the Baptist Retirement Community Golf Classic has benefited seniors in the community by using the funds for projects that positively impact the residents.
This year, the community will put the funds toward the development of two new Green House® homes. Each home is designed for 10 seniors, with open common places that provide a family-like ambiance where residents eat together, visit together and live together, much like a typical family. A Shahbaz, or certified nurse aide, with additional hours of training in culinary skills, CPR, home management, activity planning, leadership and communication, is the primary caregiver. The Baptist Retirement Community campus currently has two Green House homes, which have been a success. This year’s tournament will be held on Monday, June 2, at San Angelo Country Club (1609 Country Club Road, San Angelo, TX 76904).  Lunch will be served starting at 11 a.m. Shotgun starts at 1 p.m.

“The Golf Classic is a wonderful opportunity for people in San Angelo and the surrounding area to participate in a time of fellowship and provide funds for a positive cause,” said Robert Morales, fundraising coordinator for Baptist Retirement Community. “By hosting this event, we are also promoting the importance of wellness, physical activity and camaraderie.

The Golf Classic is a four-person scramble. The cost is $125 per individual. The community will provide sausage and brisket with sides, grilled courtesy of one of the staff members. The Baptist Retirement Community Auxiliary, a group comprised of resident volunteers, will assist with a putting contest at the tournament as well.
