The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce is hosting its 13th annual West Texas Legislative Summit August 3-4, 2016, and education and workforce needs will headline the topics to be discussed.

The West Texas Legislative Summit is designed to convene regional community leaders and elected officials in a forum that allows discussion of West Texas issues.  Elected officials and industry experts will be on hand to share information about the opportunities and challenges related to the featured topics and their impacts in our region.

State Senator Charles Perry and State Representative Drew Darby will co-host the event with the Chamber, and U.S. Congressman Mike Conaway and 19th Congressional District Republican Nominee Jodey Arrington will attend as special guests.  In addition, several legislative panels will include two State Senators and 15 State Representatives.  Other panelists include Tom Green County Judge Steve Floyd; Dr. Kim Alexander, Superintendent of Roscoe Collegiate ISD; Dr. Cheryl Sparks, President of Howard College; Dr. Brian May, President of Angelo State University; Dr. Jeff Bright, Assistant Superintendent of San Angelo ISD; Dr. Wayne Pierce, Executive Director of the Equity Center; Dr. Kinsey Hansen, Assistant Professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Angelo State University; and Duff Hallman, Chairman of the Christoval School Board.

On Wednesday, August 3rd, a reception and dinner will be held at Christoval Winery where attendees may meet the participating elected officials, speakers and other Summit participants.  Tickets to the August 3rd event are $65 through July 22nd, and $75 thereafter.

On Thursday, August 4th from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., participants will gather at the C.J. Davidson Conference Center at Angelo State University for the Summit.   Topics will include House Bill 5, Education Funding and Dual Credit Programs. The program will also include keynote addresses from Dr. Raymund Paredes, Commissioner of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Commissioner Mike Morath of the Texas Education Agency, Chancellor Robert Duncan of the Texas Tech University System, and Dr. John Miazga, Dean of the College of Education at Angelo State University. Tickets to the Summit are $125 through July 22nd, and $135 thereafter.
